Amelie Gillette is a newspaper columnist and television writer. She is currently the author of the weekly infographic The Tolerability Index[1] for The Onion’s A.V. Club and is a writer for The Office.[2] She has written for many publications, including Spin,[3] The Believer,[4] and Blender.[5]

Gillette is from New Orleans, Louisiana.[6] She attended New York University, where she wrote for Washington Square News.[5] After graduation, she worked as a freelance writer and taught English in Italy.[5]
Gillette began writing for The Onion's entertainment newspaper The A.V. Club in 2006. She wrote The Hater column as well as The Tolerability Index infographic. The last Hater column was published in 2010,[7] but she continues to write The Tolerability Index.[1] She has also written headlines for The Onion itself.[5]
Gillette joined the writing staff of The Office beginning in its seventh season.[2] She had met Office cast member Ellie Kemper a few times prior to joining the Office writing staff, since Kemper was a writer for The Onion and McSweeney's.[8]
